Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, however the Quartz microcrystals are laid out in sugar-like grains, rather than fibrous layers found in what one “typical” quartz. The name Jasper is derived from a Greek word meaning “spotted stone”. It can contain up to 20% foreign materials, which account for it’s wide variety of colors and patterns .
